Alexander Payne’s Movies Overview

Alexander PayneAlexander Payne, known for films like Sideways and Nebraska, is one of Hollywood’s most creative and well-respected filmmakers. He won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay with The Descendants’ semi-autobiographical drama. It was praised by critics and audiences, who gave it considerable box office success despite its limited release. It was his first feature film that he did with the same writer (Jim Taylor) after working with him on the short-lived TV series Firefly, in which they both worked with actor Nathan Fillion.

Payne’s latest film, Downsizing, is a comedy-drama about a man who decides to go on a “downsize” and get smaller by having his entire family move into smaller houses. He hires a daughter (Emily Mortimer) to help him realize his dreams of leaving his house, but she wants to help him out of her bad financial situation and resents her father.

Sideways is Payne’s first collaboration with actor Paul Giamatti on a film project. Critics hailed the film for being a break from the same old romantic comedies churned out. It makes fun of wine snobs as it follows two friends going on a trip together and becoming closer in the end. It also stars Virginia Madsen and Sandra Oh, who worked with him on The Descendants.

The Descendants is based on Kaui Hart Hemmings’s critically acclaimed novel (she also worked with Payne). It is about a family who is forced to deal with family drama when his wife suffers an accident and falls into a coma. It also stars Judy Greer and Matthew Lillard, who has worked with him on the other films he has worked on, though in smaller roles.

Mia Wasikowska stars in Payne’s drama, the film adaptation of the David Grann book Killers Of The Flower Moon: The Osage Murders And The Birth Of The FBI. She plays a reporter who searches for the truth behind a series of murders in Oklahoma, which were said to have been committed by family members who owned oil wells in the region. The film was brought to the world by Mark Boal and starred Sienna Miller, who has worked with him before in an appearance in Sideways.

Alexander PayneJames D’Arcy was on a mission to make the romantic comedy, The F Word: Life After Death featuring Alexander Payne, playing a man whose life after death is not what he had hoped it would be. It also stars James Morrison and Elisabeth Moss, who starred together in his previous film, The Descendants.
