Doug Haynes

DoughDoug Haynes is a managing partner at Council Advisors. He is the president of Point72 Asset Management, a multi-strategy hedge fund based in Stamford, Connecticut. In 2010, Haynes started the Fund’s first non-U.S. fund named “Point72 Europe”. It was closed in 2013 after running for 25 months but re-opened as a new fund in 2015 and closed again in 2017. The firm also manages two other hedge funds: Point72 Japan and Point72 Middle East. In addition, Haynes is a member of the Board of Directors of Manulife Financial Corporation (Canada) and serves on the Board of Directors for The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), an independent research institute based in Washington DC that focuses on international security issues and policy-making abroad.

Haynes’ career began at Merrill Lynch in New York City, where he was a vice president of client service. He then joined Prudential Securities in Stamford as an associate and later became the firm’s vice president. After leaving Prudential, Haynes worked for a short period at Citicorp and then joined Morgan Stanley’s investment-banking department in New York City. Haynes also served on the boards of directors for several companies, including Salomon Smith Barney (now Citigroup) and Capital Research & Management Company (CRMC).

In 1998, Doug Haynes established his first hedge fund, Point72 Asset Management. The firm initially invested in various stocks and bonds but later narrowed its focus to just investments in U.S. equities. As of 2011, the firm had over $8 billion under management and was consistently ranked as one of the top 10 hedge funds globally by “The Wall Street Journal” and “Barron’s.” The firm has been called “one of the most successful hedge funds ever,” with an annualized return on investment (ROI) between 2% and 4%. In 2017, Haynes’ firm managed more than $4 billion for investors worldwide.
