Randy Douthit – trailblazer of court TV
In the world of entertainment, the talent of creation is limited. Being the show that most people want to watch in their free time is the goal of most programs.
Shows worked on
Randy Douthit has come a long way from selling tickets to his friends for shows he produced after school. He’s responsible for creating and contributing to several shows that people have grown to love. In the early stages of being a producer, he developed and refined his skills by watching the people who did intricate work behind the scenes. Being a director and executive producer on shows like Crossfire and Larry King Live provided experience. His ability to lead a team could be the byproduct of his being a part of the team on shows like The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
The Success of Judy Justice
Judge Judy Sheindlin initially wanted to start her television career by replacing Judge Joseph Wapner on The People’s Court. In the event this not happening opened the door for her to have a show of her own. Sheindlin provided a type of presence that’s witty and stern but funny and fair. The personality of Judy Justice has made it informative and entertaining to watch courtroom events.
Film making during the pandemic
Going into 2020, Covid-19 caused an unexpected challenge for all businesses. Amazon Studios provided an opportunity for Judy Justice going into November. The pandemic affected the production of all shows that year. Randy Douthit used his decades of experience to complete a 120-episode deal in three months. This accomplishment didn’t come without the numerous challenges establishments faced with the uncertainty surrounding testing and vaccination. Douthit demonstrated his ability to lead a team during this joint effort with executive producer Scott Koondel and co-executive producer Amy Freisleben. The use of technology was necessary during this time as there were episodes that Judge Judy presided over remotely.
There’s a lot Douthit learned from his more than two decades of work on the Judy Justice set. One of the things is to avoid emotion and be as straight to the point as possible to have the best representation for your case. He also learned that the criminal justice system does have its flaws, and he can contribute to its improvement.
