Finding a great cause to devote your life to is something that we all aspire to. That is precisely what led to the creation and ongoing work of the Colcom Foundation. The foundation was started by Cordelia S. May, her love and respect for nature and her environment pushed her to do more, to take risks, and to actually work to make a difference in here area.

The foundation was started in 1996 when Cordelia was 68 years old. After her death in 2005, the foundation took on new life and pursued her goals of saving the environment with a new zeal and a new zest. We see it every day, a world where people are taking more than they are giving back to the environment and a world where we are destroying the planet that we live on.

This is not what we should be doing, and it is not the vision of the Colcom Foundation. The main aim of the foundation today as it stands is to address our presence on this earth and how it is eventually going to the destruction of the planet and of ourselves.

The Colcom Foundation is located in Southwest Pennsylvania and that is where most community efforts are focused, but they realize that the problem is much further reaching and far more serious than just a few counties. Currently, the foundation works to reach as many people as possible with their main community focus being in Pennsylvania.

Colcom Foundation’s work has also facilitated proactive environmental advocacy and protection by groups, including the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, WeConservePA, Westmoreland Land Trust, Protect PT, and Fair Shake Environmental Legal Services.

Through grants, education and a variety of programs, the foundation is working to ensure that they are making lasting impressions, that they are using the platform that they have been given, and that they are working to make a true difference each and every day in how we interact with our planet, how we can coexist with our planet, and how we can protect and preserve it.
