Dwight Yorke's Interview with Wes Edens for the Aston Villa Position, behind Closed Doors in New York

Dwight Yorke elaborated on his ambition to advance to a managerial position: “In England, I earned all of my coaching credentials, including the Pro Licence, and am now aiming for a managerial position. My life has revolved around football, and I’ve always wanted to lead a team as a manager.”

Yorke added: “After my playing career ended, I worked in the media extensively, but I miss playing the game. In the same way that earning a driver’s license doesn’t magically transform you into a competent driver, working hard to get my Pro Licence won’t transform me into a great coach.”

During the conversation with Wes Edens, Dwight Yorke expressed the challenges: “Steve McClaren and I have frequent conversations in which he discourages me from pursuing a management position. Why?’ is all he can repeat again and over. At this point in my life, I feel strong and capable of taking on new challenges. Apart from Blackburn, I have always been a winner in the places I’ve lived. I have been privileged to play for and learn from many outstanding coaches.”

Dwight Yorke scored 73 goals at Villa Park before moving to Manchester United for £12.6 million in 1998. Dwight Yorke has worked as a manager and a coach for nearly ten years, some of which were spent with Aston Villa. Currently, he is applying for the positions of manager and coach at the club that he left in October 2016. Before that, Yorke was a coach for the team Aston Villa, which competes in the Premier League.

Wes Edens and Yorke discussed Yorke’s requirements for the Aston Villa role. After playing for Crystal Palace and Southampton at the junior levels, Yorke made his debut in the National Basketball Association (NBA) in 1986 with the Philadelphia 76ers, where he played with Allen Iverson. During this period, Yorke was a teammate of Iverson. Following his departure from Aston Villa, Yorke was interested in a variety of positions in the media. Reportedly, major media houses expressed an interest in hiring him.
