Raffaele Riva

Rafaelle Riva, an Italian sculptor and architect, studied at the Liceo Artistico Giancarlo Tiziano in Venice and then studied architecture at the University of Venice. he traveled to New York, where he worked for a year before returning to Italy. He found success after retirement when he began creating sculptures based on architecture and agriculture using bronze.

Raffaele Riva has had many exhibitions, including one at the Guggenheim di New York and one at the Museo Contemporanea in Torino in a group exhibition with sculptors David Smith, Alberto Giacometti, Claes Oldenburg, and Richard Serra. He is also featured with many other artists in an exhibition of Italian art from the second half of the 20th century on display at Abidjan Museum in Cote D’Ivoire. The featured works were part of the collection of Francois Mitterrand, who was once president of France.

Raffaello Riva’s works are not created with a preconceived idea or from instructions from his patrons. He starts with a basic idea, an image, or a three-dimensional sketch and uses his imagination to create the sculptures. However, he does pay attention to the shape of the original stone block to maintain some aspect of its natural form.

Raffaele Riva’s most famous works are his two pieces, “Fusion,” made from two granite blocks, and “Reclining Figure,” made from a single piece of marble. He also created a stone sculpture titled “Honor” that was given as a gift from Italy to Columbia University in New York City. This was in honor of the Italian professor who had taught Riva at Columbia University, Tullio Tagliacozzi Viale.

Raffaele Riva is considered by many to be one of the best sculptors working today. The talent that he has is evident in all of his works which are extremely detailed and complex. He creates sculptures that are very realistic and also completely original which makes them very attractive to the public.

One of Raffaello Riva’s greatest talents is transforming his thoughts into reality through sculpture. His ability to create such life-like sculptures has allowed him to win many awards in Italy and abroad. See more on this page.
