Randy Douthit Executive television producer
Randy Douthit career in television production spans more than 30 years, from his start as an assistant studio technician at PBS to working as a senior executive for NBC, ABC and CBS. He has overseen the production of more than 2,000 hours of TV programming in the last 5 years alone. By far, his highest profile work to date has been on the nationally syndicated hit series, “The Biggest Loser”.
Douthit is responsible for all aspects of that show’s production, including casting, writing and creative direction. In 2007, “The Biggest Loser” won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Reality-Competition Program. The following year it was nominated again – this time for Outstanding Structured Reality Program. Douthit also shares in the Producers’ Guild Award nomination that “Biggest Loser” received in 2009.
Prior to joining NBC in 2007, Douthit was the executive producer of ABC’s “Extreme Makeover Home Edition”. He was also the executive in charge of production for “Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition”. In addition to overseeing the production of “Biggest Loser”, Douthit has also overseen two other nationally syndicated shows for NBC – “Joe Millionaire” and “The Apprentice”.
On February 11, 2010, Douthit was presented with an Award of Excellence from the Producers Guild of America as a nominee for his work on “The Biggest Loser”.
In both 2003 and 2004 he was nominated by NATAS/west as Producer of the Year. He received additional awards in 2012 from NATAS West including The Harry Chapin Media Award.
Randy Douthit currently serves as the Executive Producer of “Biggest Loser: Couples”, which premiered on NBC on September 9, 2009, and has served as executive producer of “The Biggest Loser: Couples” since its premiere. As an executive producer he was also a member of the executive team responsible for the successful launch of “The Biggest Loser”.
Randy Douthit is also responsible for producing some of NBC’s best-known shows including “Undateable”, “” and “”. He was also the national manager for the 2006–2007 season of ABC’s long-running reality hit, “The Bachelor”. Douthit has been inducted into the Producers Guild of America’s Hall Of Fame.
