Colcom Foundation
Colcom Foundation is a charitable organization dedicated to providing unconditionally loving care to Haiti and Colombia’s extremely poor and orphaned children, two countries with some of the most impoverished demographics in the world.
The Foundation provides a safe, loving home environment for children and adults without discrimination. We are committed to providing these families with nourishing meals, clothing, books, toys, and encouragement five days a week.
Our program empowers these families to become independent agents of change in their communities by giving them the tools they need to build their businesses. We also provide other services, such as healthcare and educational support, as needed.
Colcom’s ‘Five Pillars’ are a thriving community foundation; a supportive government which understands the importance of assistance to poor communities; strategic business assistance; healthcare assistance for pregnant mothers; and education grants for families with young children.
Colcom is the brainchild of Dr Arturo J. Torres, a veteran orthopaedic surgeon from Texas and an experienced humanitarian with over 30 years of experience working in Latin America. Arturo moved to Haiti in 2004 and established the foundation in 2007. The Colcom Foundation was formally recognized as a non-profit organization on February 1, 2012, by the State of Texas. Arturo’s dream of aiding impoverished communities never materialized during his time as a patient and fellow volunteer/volunteer at Scott & White Clinic in Temple, TX, before deciding to devote himself full-time to helping poor children.
The events in Haiti and Colombia, which Arturo witnessed first-hand, eventually inspired him to make a difference. Arturo is an active member of the Texas Orthopaedic Association and has volunteered extensively with the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) for over 12 years. His leadership for Colcom Foundation was enthusiastically welcomed by Dr David Scott, a frequent visitor to Haiti when he was at the helm of DSHS. All donations to Colcom Foundation are tax deductible under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Visit this page to learn more.
